Steve Kraft, LMSW, JD.

PROJECT co-founder and board member, Steve Kraft has over 40 years of experience in social work as practitioner, supervisor, agency director, educator, and scholar.  Previously the Executive Director of The Educational Alliance in New York City and now retired from full-time faculty at the University of North Dakota Department of Social Work, Kraft served as president of the International Association for Social Work with Groups, Inc. from 2009 through 2012 and has acted as the Association’s legal counsel since its inception.  A few years after obtaining his social work degree, Kraft sought a law degree and focused his legal services on child/family, criminal, and personal injury law.

Steve Kraft’s long social work career has focused primarily on working with youth and on mental health and substance abuse.  He currently provides social group work training and consulting in the U.S. and abroad and has most recently focused on training in social group work for the youth development field.

“Promoting social group work is very important for many reasons,” states Kraft, “not the least of which is because when you participate in social group work process you learn to respect difference – something the world really needs.  People learn to respect others, and through that process they learn to respect themselves too.”
