Middle School OST Program
Target Audience:
First-Time or Experienced Providers of Middle School (Early Adolescent) Programming
Eligible Staff:
Managers, supervisors, direct service providers, professional staff, youth workers, and paraprofessional staff
Format:
A customized professional development plan may include a mix of The Project’s services e.g., consultations; observation; workshops; troubleshooting.
Consultation:
Trouble-Shooting; observation; evaluation
Our program specialists work with you to identify and address key issues and to meet objectives in every aspect of middle school programming including: needs assessments; staff skills; team cohesion; supervisory infrastructure; program design; outcomes; and evaluation.
Workshops:
Leading Groups for Early Adolescents
- Conduct effective outreach
- Engage early adolescents for long-term participation
- Conduct effective pre-group planning
- Design group activities that engage middle school students
- Assist participants to strengthen and use their leadership skills
Team Conferences:
Strategies to Assist the Early Adolescents in Your Program
- Develop effective strategies for working with ‘struggling’ youth (e.g., young people with poor social skills; bullying behaviors; reading problems)
- Solve problems ‘on the floor’ by drawing on best practices and agency policies
- Recognize the needs of the whole child (e.g., cognitive, academic, social)
- Create opportunities for early adolescents to learn new skills and flourish
Timeframe:
Varies according to your ‘professional development plan’ which may include full and half-day workshops; two-hour team conferences; three-hour planning sessions; consultations and trouble-shooting.
